Canuck Place Creative Challenge

Presented by Sevenoaks Shopping Centre
September 21 - 22, 2013 in Gap Court

What is the Canuck Place Creative Challenge?
The Canuck Place Creative Challenge is a community event introduced in 2010, which provides Abbotsford businesses the opportunity to support Canuck Place Children’s Hospice in a fun and creative way. With your Sponsorship you and your staff/team have the opportunity to work together as a team to build a Lego creation representing what Canuck Place means to you. This is a fantastic opportunity to represent your business in a creative way. Please see the sponsorship sheet attached, for the variety of ways you can get involved. All proceeds will benefit Canuck Place Children’s Hospital - Abbotsford.

We are pleased once again to partner with Lego Master Builder Robin Sather to build a giant Lego creation from September 21 – 22, 2013. We invite you to visit us at Sevenoaks Shopping Centre in Gap Court that weekend to support Canuck Place.

About the Canuck Place Children’s Hospice
Over seventeen years ago, BC children with life-threatening illnesses and their families had nowhere to turn for specialized care now offered by Canuck Place Children’s Hospice. Today, thanks to generous donors, families from across our province can access our world-class program.

The demand for our services continues to rise. Knowing that we are only reaching at most 25% of the need, we are building a 10 bed, 5 family suite, 30,000 square foot hospice in Abbotsford. The new hospice will deliver state-of-the-art clinical care while ensuring children and families are in an environment that is warm and welcoming.

“Canuck Place was a refuge for our family during my grandson, Andrew’s short life. It was a haven where body and soul were nourished by the caring staff and volunteers, making a difficult time in our lives a little more bearable.”
- Betty, Canuck Place Grandma

Now, more than ever, we need your support of Canuck Place.
Show your support for the NEW Canuck Place Children’s Hospice in Abbotsford by participating in the Third Annual Canuck Place Creative Challenge!

About the Abbotsford Hospice Society

For over 25 years the Abbotsford Hospice Society (AHS) has been helping people who are dying and providing free support services to their families. In addition to helping those who are living with a terminal or life-threatening illness, AHS provides programs to comfort children, teens and adults on their very personal journey of grief

On March 30th 2011, David Holmberg Jr. passed away leaving a loving wife, two children, parents, siblings and their families, friends and colleagues. He was 48 years old.

Just as David Jr.’s life was cut short, many families have to cope with the loss of a loved one far too soon. While traditionally adult hospice care has been associated with supporting patients in their later years, the Abbotsford Hospice Society will build the first hospice residence in Abbotsford for those as young as 19 years of age.

Our very own locally built hospice residence, to be named “Holmberg House”, in honour of Dave Jr, will bring comprehensive care services, 24 hours a day, seven days a week to patients, their families and friends. Holmberg House will be designed to most effectively deliver the numerous support services we provide. Features and design elements will create a comforting setting that embodies the universal characteristic of hospice care.

AHS will form part of an innovative partnership with Canuck Place Children's Hospice and Matthew's House children's respite centre to create a one of a kind Campus of Care in Abbotsford. AHS has taken a huge step towards helping make Abbotsford the very best city to live in, a city that cares for all of its citizens including those children, teens, adults and families who are facing challenge in its many forms. The Campus of Care, with the three facilities, will set a high standard and will become a model for other communities; in fact it will most likely become a North American leader in hospice and respite care.
