THE BENEFITS OF WORKING OUT WITH A PARTNER OR A GROUP

With Valentine’s Day around the corner you may be taking stock of the relationships in your life. The relationships with your partner, your co-workers, the people you meet at the coffee shop, your family and more, shape the person you are and the life you lead. Even when you work out, the benefits of working out with another person makes a huge difference in your fitness goals.

When you share your goals of fitness and health with others it makes those goals seem like they are achievable, less exhausting, and more fun. That’s because sharing your goals with another or a group has its benefits. A couple of those benefits include:

Motivation

Working out with a partner or in a group helps motivate you to get up, get out, and get to work. Knowing that you are not going to be the only one suffering through a gruelling 60-minute workout can make the workout tolerable. Sharing the exhaustion with a fellow comrade and seeing the pain on their face as well can make you feel power to keep going. Having that bond with a group of friends or strangers can motivate you every day to take that first step toward each others common goals . . . health and fitness.

Competition

A little competition can go a long way. You can get together with your friends, family, or your partner and start a harmless competition to lose weight, or eat healthier, or run a marathon. Whatever the goal, your natural competitive streak will rise, encouraging you to do your best, move faster, and push harder. That could be hard to do if you workout alone. When it comes to competition the more the merrier.

Support

This is one of my favourite benefits of working with a partner or in a group. Who doesn’t need support? With support we lean on each other, we talk about our common goals and keep them fresh in our minds. We discuss our barriers and talk about each other’s weaknesses, which only make us stronger. Support is the most important factor of gaining a healthy life style. We look for support from our families, from our friends, and from the stranger that comes to the gym at the same time you do or take a common group fitness class. Either way, when it comes to achieving health and fitness goals, a little support can go along way.

This Valentine’s Day think about the relationships that benefit your health and fitness, and reach out to those you see everyday. Be someone how motivates, who provides competition, and who gives out support to those around you. You will achieve the best goal for health and fitness you could ask for. A friend.
